Timepieces aims to capture the musical elements of mechanical wristwatches. Rather than organizing the piece into traditional movement, they are organized into “Complications”. The theme of constant motion through time is always present with a tempo of 120BPM throughout all of Timepieces. Complication 1, Movement, keeps a highly rhythmic pulse in addition to swaying melodic lines. Complication 2, Tourbillon, is highly mechanical and focuses on angular feel and contrasting harmonies. Complication 3, Jewels, continues the mechanized rhythmic structures underneath constant kalimba melodies representing the jewels inside the watch mechanism.
