Amber
Piano Quartet

Duration: 7’00”
Amber aims to capture three different elements of the amber gemstone. Almost every time I imagine amber, I imagine an insect frozen in the stone. The first movement Trapped aims to sonically demonstrate the freezing of an object within the amber over time. The second movement Of The Earth aims to capture the immense age of amber gemstones and their connections to trees and the Earth. The third and final movement Static Core represents the ability for the amber gemstone to hold a charge of static electricity. The chords in the piano are grand, contrasting section of pizzicato and bowed playing in the strings. This contrast is meant to represent the electricity built up in the core of the gemstone.
