Lost at sea is the story of two people experiencing a hurricane while adrift in the ocean. Hurricanes are part of life in Florida and this piece aims to tell the familiar story of the hurricane experience from a different angle. One of the most fortunate aspects of modern technology is the ability to track hurricane development and movement. These conveniences give people time to prepare themselves for the storm or evacuate the area. Lost at Sea brings listeners on a journey through the different sections of a hurricane, but with no warning of the impending chaos. The violin and cello represent the boat with swaying harmonies while the flute and clarinet parts represent the people adrift using different melodic material. The piano represents both the water and the storm throughout the piece weaving in and out of the texture of the other instruments.
